Urinalysis Detects Bladder Cancer
The new test is based on the identification of genes involved in this type of cancer, unlike those in the market, less precise, identifying markers, said the chief of urology at the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona, Antonio Alcaraz.

Spanish specialists saw that this technique is simple and noninvasive technique for early detection of bladder cancer.

The method to diagnose the tumor through the screening of 14 genes, and development is expected to gradually reduce the number of cystoscopy, a test that involves the exploration of the bladder through the urethra.

The results of the new technique, reached after seven years of research and investment of one million euros could be on the market in 2013.

Currently, five hospitals, three of them Spanish (the Clinic of Barcelona, Puigvert Foundation and the Virgen del Rocío de Sevilla), one from Holland and one from Austria are validating the results of this study with a thousand patients.

Bladder cancer is the second most common tumor of the genito-urinary tract after prostate cancer.
