GLOBESITY: Three Reasons to Fight The Epidemic
Experts have been named after one of the most dangerous epidemics that threaten humanity worldwide: globesity, ie global obesity. No need to look far to find three reasons to fight against it: health, self-esteem and solidarity.
Worldwide, one billion people are overweight and of these, 300 million are obese. The worst thing is that this epidemic is growing rampant. It is not limited only to the first world, but also harassed large areas of less developed countries.
It is so alarming that many experts think that because it could reverse the trend towards greater life expectancy than mankind has recorded since the beginning of the twentieth century: a global level, perhaps we will live less than our parents and, if no one remedied, our children will live less than us.
The cause of this epidemic has many factors: changes in eating patterns (now eats differently than in decades and, in general, more and much less healthy), employment (jobs now require less physical effort), transportation or leisure. Moreover, the interests of certain food catering business and are probably not unrelated to this increase, given the inaction of the health authorities.
If we look at the problem from the standpoint of the citizen (the authorities have other tools, although not always used), we find at least three reasons not to let ourselves be affected by this epidemic or, where appropriate, to get rid of it. That is, to maintain a correct weight or lose weight. First, and most importantly, obesity brings with it serious health problems: diabetes type II, cardiovascular disease, respiratory problems and even certain types of cancer.
A second reason, far more questionable than before, if you will, but extremely powerful, is self-esteem. The aesthetic standards of our society, but can be very critical, there. And one of the main pattern is the praise of the intestine and therefore, the critique of the obese.
As a result of this obesity often leads to self-esteem issues. And even if he suffered low esteem of others due to our obesity. Unfortunately, criticize these absurd aesthetic and social standards does not remove or that we may avoid them. Even, one can say with little risk of error than aesthetic reasons are, for most people, the main motivation for fighting obesity.
Finally, a third reason may also move to combat obesity, and solidarity. Obesity and its associated diseases represent a huge expenditure for health care. But also, if we allow this disorder afflicts us and we are affected by a disease also linked to the injured, one way or another, for the most dear and near to us. Therefore, avoid obesity and its consequences is also an act of solidarity with our loved ones.
As if that were not enough, numerous studies show that obesity is a person tends to “catch” to the people closest living with him, and especially their children. This happens by way of imitation of manners, foods that are bought and used at home, etc. It is with our children, precisely, with whom we have a higher duty of solidarity.
